Rodney W. Hunter, 96, of Guys Mills, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
He was born in Guys Mills April 13, 1912, a son of the late Datus and Ida Hilliard Hunter. He married Faleda F. Foster May 31, 1940 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Guys Mills High School and worked as an electrician and mechanic at Meadville Malleable. He subsequently worked at Free-Col Laboratories. Rodney enjoyed hunting, gardening, roller skating, and bicycling over the years and was a member of the Townville Senior Citizens.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Faleda of 68 years, include a son, Roy A. Hunter and his wife Joyce of Erie; 4 daughters, Wanda Sutton of Philippi, WV; Ijenna G. Getty and her husband Richard of Saegertown; Sandra Atkin of Saegertown; and Bonnie Leamer and her husband Robert of North East; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and also nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Loyal Hunter; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Shaver; 5 sisters, Guyla Morris, Grace Hunter, Genevieve Hunter, Violet Murray, and Evelyn Hunter; and a brother, Karl Hunter.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will follow at noon with the Rev. Dave Brumagin, Assistant Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Conneaut Lake and Meadville Medical Center Chaplain, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
The family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
