Roger J. Roae

Roger J. Roae, 79, of Erie, passed away February 19, 2023 at UPMC Hamot, Erie.

He was born June 3, 1943, in Meadville, a son of the late Joseph J. (Dobie) Roae and Doris M. Dennis Roae Manuel.  He married D. Marilynn Waldorf on July 11, 1964 and she survives.

Roger was a 1961 graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School and a 1963 graduate of Erie Business Center.  He also graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College auction school.  He was a long-time member of St. Hippolyte Church where he served as an altar boy and then a choir member for 27 years.

Roger was a firefighter and EMT with East Mead VFD and served in several positions including Fire Chief.  When Roger moved to the Erie area in 1987, he then served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with West Ridge Fire Department in Millcreek Township.  Roger established ROAE AUCTIONEERS in Erie County conducting on-site household and real estate auctions and online auctions.  Roger was an office furniture sales rep for Sanner Office Supply (now W.B. Mason) and Office Furniture USA for 25 years.  Roger and his father developed Brookdale Campground (now Meadville KOA).  Roger enjoyed going to his camp with the guys to hunt and fish.

Most of all, Roger loved his wife, Marilynn, his two sons Dave (Alison) of Olean, NY and Brad, Sr. (Dana) of Meadville and his five grandchildren, Rachael Roae (fiancé Joshua Lyon), Bradley Roae, Jr. (fiancée Hannah Myers), and Gregory Roae, all of Meadville and Andrew Roae and Evelyn Roae of Olean, NY.  He is further survived by two brothers, Michael of Meadville, and Charles (Teresita) of California and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Denise Roae Schobel.

Calling hours will be Thursday, February 23rd from 4-7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNEARL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE with a scripture prayer service at 6:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Church in Frenchtown with Fr. Joseph Petrone as Celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. Hippolyte Church, 25997 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills, PA 16327 or to East Mead VFD, 23876 State Hwy 27, Meadville, PA 16335.
