Roger James Orr

July 22, 1936 — April 6, 2022

Roger James Orr, 85, of Meadville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

He was born July 22, 1936 in Meadville, a son of James O. and Katheryn Sayre Orr.  He married Alma L. Hull in 1958.

Roger was a graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Edinboro University and graduate degrees from Penn State University.

He was first employed as a teacher and principle at the Randolph-East Mead Elementary School.

Roger was a professor at California University of Pennsylvania from 1969 until his retirement in 1996.  He served in a variety of administrative and teaching positions while employed at the university.  When he retired, he was serving as the Department Chairman of Elementary/Early Childhood Education in the College of Education.

After his retirement, Roger and Alma lived in Surprise, AZ for five years before returning to Meadville.  During retirement, he appreciated the opportunity of volunteering at Wesbury’s Grace Health Center and doing bible study correspondence courses with inmates at the Crawford County Correctional Facility and other prisons (courses sponsored by the Christian Gospel League).  Roger found these to be rewarding and was grateful for the opportunity.

Roger was a member of First Christian Church.

In addition to his loving wife, Alma, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Patricia Cope of Townville and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a son, Robert Orr; three brothers, Morrison, Meredith and Nyal Orr; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Russell and Roberta Hull.

Not because of anything he has done, but what Jesus Christ has done for him at the cross and for you and for all who will accept Him as Savoir and Lord.  Roger believed with Job:  “I know my redeemer lives… and I know that after this body has decayed… yet I shall see God.  Then He will be on my side, yes I shall see Him, not as a stranger, but as a friend!”  (Job 19:  25-27)

Private services will be held with interment in New Richmond Cemetery.

The arrangements have been entrusted to the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT STEET, MEADVILLE where memories and condolences may be shared at www.waidfuneralhome.net
