Roland Duane Brown

May 31, 1926 — April 12, 1999

R. Duane Brown, 72, of Meadville, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Greenville, May 31, 1926, a son of Carl and Alice (Henry) Brown.  He married Audrey J. Oster, November 15, 1947 and she survives.

He was a 1944 graduate of Meadville High School.  Following graduation, he served in the US Navy during World War II.

Upon his return from the service, he started working as a lineman with the Meadville Telephone Co.  He progressed to cable splicer helper, installer-repairman, working foreman, cable splicer and retired in 1987 after 40 years of service as plant supervisor.

He was Past Exalted Ruler of Meadville Elks Lodge #219; he was a member of West Mead #1 Volunteer Fire Department and the Meadville Club.  He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #408 and Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie.  He had been active in cerebral palsy campaigns and the Boy Scout Council and he had attended Emmanuel United Church of Christ.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his grandchildren and his dog, Sunny.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, Alice Brown of Meadville; a daughter, Cathy Lang (Dane) of Meadville; a son, Thomas Duane Brown (Melinda) of Austin, TX; a sister, Pearl Saul (Don) of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Carl "Lew" Brown (Patricia) of Turnersville, NJ and two grandsons, Adam Wesley Lang and Ryan Thomas Lang.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
