Ronald L. Shorts

Ronald L. Shorts, 88, of Blooming Valley, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Crawford County Care Center.

He was born July 12, 1928 in Saegertown, a son of Donald and Leona Brant Shorts.  He married Marcia Moffitt November 18, 1950 and she preceded him in death April 20, 2001.

Ron was a 1946 graduate of Saegertown High School and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan.  He continued his education at Edinboro University where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.  He taught english and social studies at Saegertown High School for 37 years, retiring in 1997.  He previously worked at Westinghouse, the American Viscose and as a contractor.

Ron was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and the Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111.  He formerly enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and riding motorcycles.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey James Shorts of Edinboro; dear friend, Mary Wolff of Blooming Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Kraus and Annette Bell.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 21st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral and committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. J.W. Koe, Pastor of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
