Ronald P. Stallard

June 4, 1934 — March 5, 2015

Ronald P. Stallard, 80, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at his Florida home in Eustis, FL after a very long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ron was born June 4, 1934 in Meadville, a son of Darrell E. and Matilda (Tillie) Ososki Stallard.

Ron attended Meadville area schools and graduated from Meadville High School in the class of 1952.  He served two years in the U.S. Army, with a tour of duty in Kaiserslautern, Germany.  He was a Personnel Specialist and was honorably discharged in March 1959.

Ron spent his working years in the retail business, with the majority of those years working for the large grocery stores.  After his retirement from Riverside Market, he worked at Country Fair, Miles Shoe Store, Family Enterprises, Spaulding’s, and Walmart.

Ron enjoyed playing baseball and softball, having been a member of the Crawford County League.  It was his first love.  He also enjoyed golfing, boating, vacations with family at the ocean, all kinds of music, especially “the oldies”, and playing cards and games with friends.  He enjoyed immensely time spent with his circle of friends in Florida.  He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan since the 1940s and the Cleveland Indians, but enjoyed watching most sports.  He was truly an animal lover.

Ron was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church.  He was also a member of the Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111, Meadville and the Eat and Travel Club.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sandy Whistler Stallard, of 54 years.  They were married at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church on November 5, 1960 by Rev. Father Andrew Weschler.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Janice Stallard Miller and her husband Russell of Laurel, MD; three brothers, Lawrence B. Stallard and his wife Marian of Meadville, David L. Stallard of Saegertown, and Ralph L. Stallard and his wife Jeri of Charlotte Court House, VA; an aunt, Bonnie Nackerud of Alabama; two special friends that were considered extended family, Lisa R. Peterson and Janet Bortner; several nieces and nephews; and two furry rescue friends, Molly and Millie.

Ron was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa M. Stallard; his parents, Tillie Ososki Fike and Darrell E. Stallard; his stepfather, Robert G. Fike; his in-laws, Clarence and Hazel Whistler; an infant brother; a niece, Christine Stallard-Klink; and several aunts and uncles.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 2nd at 12:00 p.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski as Celebrant.  Family and friends will be received prior to the Mass from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Rd., Meadville, PA 16335.

The arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where memories and condolences may be shared at www.waidfuneralhome.net.
