Ronald W. Ball, Sr.

September 9, 1943 — February 5, 2021

Ronald W. Ball, Sr., 77, formerly of Meadville and a resident of Cranberry Twp. for the past 4½ years died at home Friday, February 5, 2021.

He was born September 9, 1943 a son of Russell and Jane Neff Ball.  He married Janet Cooley August 7, 1966 and she preceded him in death October 30, 2004.

He was a 1961 graduate of Meadville High School and served in the US Army from 1961-1964.  Following his discharge from the Army he attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy graduating in 1969.  He worked as a pharmacist at several local pharmacies retiring from the pharmacy at Tops Grocery Store in 2012.

He loved the outdoors, enjoying cycling and hiking.  He also enjoyed cooking and baking, fishing, camping, traveling and working in his yard.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family and his dog, Olivia.

He is survived by five children, Ronald Ball, Jr. (Tami) of Johnstown, Barbara Evans (Jim) of Cranberry Twp., Amanda Obermeier (Joe) of Meadville, Russell Ball (Alyssa) of Pittsburgh and Dodie Schaub (Adam) of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan and Mikayla Ball, Alex and Nick Evans, Jacob and Michael Ball and Evan Schaub; and two sisters-in-law, Brenda Chapman (John) of Geneseo, NY and Nancy Ball of San Antonio, TX and several nieces and one nephew.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emma Schaub; and a brother, Robert Ball.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.  CDC guidelines for masking and social distancing will be followed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, P.O. Box 781352, Philadelphia, PA 19178 (www.chop.edu) or to a local humane society or animal shelter.
