Rosemay D. (Dewey) Benson Moyer

Rosemay D. Benson Moyer, 94, of Meadville and formerly of Ridgway, passed away, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

She was born October 29, 1926 in Corry, a daughter of Ralph and Winifred Lena Post Dewey.  She married Robert L. Benson August 19, 1951 and he preceded her in death August 14, 1994.  She subsequently married J. Richard Moyer June 14, 2008 and he preceded her in death May 26, 2016.

Rosemay was a 1944 graduate of Corry High School and a 1948 graduate of Indiana State Teacher’s College with a bachelor’s degree in Education.  She spent two summers of master’s degree work at Columbia University.  She taught for 30 years in the Ridgway public schools, retiring in 1989.

Rosemay was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Meadville where she served as a pianist and was a former member and 50 year choir director of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ridgway.  She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and served as a trustee of the Ruth M. Smith Center, Sheffield, PA.  She enjoyed traveling and all kinds of music.

Survivors include four children, David Lee Benson (Julie) of Greer, SC, Christine Thompson (Charles) of Salisbury, NC, James Benson of Lincoln, VT and Mark E. Benson (Kathy) of Coraopolis; J. Richard’s children, John Moyer of Conneaut Lake, David Moyer of Maumee, OH, Kevin Moyer (Denise) of Conneaut Lake, and Betsy Tingley (Reggie) of Conneaut Lake; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Ralph and Robert; a granddaughter, Elizabeth and a brother, Edward.

Calling hours will be Saturday, March 20th from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Marchetta, Chaplain of Wesbury United Methodist Community, officiating.  The wearing of masks is required.  The service will be live streamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/rosemay-benson-moyer

The committal service and interment will be in Oakmont Cemetery, Ridgway with the Rev. Roger Peterson, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating.
