Roy B. Atha

Roy B. Atha, 68, of Guys Mills, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born February 4, 1948 in Deep Water, WV, a son of Roy H. Atha and Myrtle Mae Gray Atha.  He married Dolores A. Chechak June 8, 1991 and she survives.

Roy worked at Art Galvanizing Works, Cleveland, Ohio, Sunbeam, Avtex, and for 25 years as a welder and fabricator at Burkhardt Sheet Metal, Meadville.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed woodworking and making lamps in recent years.  He loved his family, being with people, camping on the river, going to casinos, and his 3 Jack Russell Terriers.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Dolores of 24 years, include three children, Tracey Atha of Titusville, Anthony (Andy) Atha and his wife April of Guys Mills, and Richard Atha and his wife Jennifer of Diamond; his step-mother, Mae Eloise (Ella) Atha of Deep Water, WV; six grandchildren, Capri Smith and Cameron, Nick, Zack, Hannah, and Caitlyn Atha; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Atha and his wife Ruby of Wellston, Ohio and Harrison Lee Atha of Deep Water, WV; five sisters, Thelma Davis of Deep Water, WV, Reva Jurrell and her husband John of Spencer, WV, Althie Stanley of Deep Water, WV, Rosa Strickland of Deep Water, WV, and Louise Craig of Deep Water, WV; several aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, an infant, Lucille Atha and Carolyn Wheeler and three brothers-in-law, Junior Davis, Richard Stanley, and Andy Chechak.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Rd., Meadville, PA 16335 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
