Ruby Flower Cook, 96, of Meadville, a newspaper society editor, died Tuesday, August 27, 1991, at her residence after a brief illness.
She was born in Ashtabula, OH, July 14, 1895, a daughter of J. H. and Pearl Beardsley Flower. She married Dr. Perry D. Cook, who preceded her in death in 1977.
She was society editor of the Ashtabula Star-Beacon, Ashtabula, OH. She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church; member and past president of United Methodist Women; attended Miami University of Ohio and Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa; member and past president of the Meadville Woman's Club; member and past worthy matron of Mead Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; member of the Philo-Mathesian Club; and member of the Hawaiian Club. She was a prolific oil-painting artist, and poetry and short-story writer, having received numerous local and state awards. She also wrote, produced, directed and performed in many local theatrical plays and skits.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Madelene C. Watson of Conneaut Lake; a son, Dr. Perry D. Cook of Sharon; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Flower.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
