Ruby J. Shorter Cease Copeland, 87, formerly of 10483 Williamson Rd., Meadville and a current resident of the Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, died there Thursday, November 23, 2006.
She was born November 15, 1919 in Princeton, WV, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Emma May Farley Shorter. She had been married to David J. Cease and subsequently married Ellison Copeland in 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1969.
She was a graduate of Princeton High School and retired as food service director from Crawford Central School District June 20, 1978 following over 30 years of service. She previously was employed as a housekeeper for various local individuals. She was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed gardening and doing puzzles.
Survivors include 2 sons, David E. Cease and his wife Carol of Meadville and Dennis G. Cease and his wife Jacklyn of Saegertown; 3 granddaughters, Deborah Nichols and her husband Greg of Meadville; Stephanie Nichol and her husband Scott of Export; and Diane Chimiak and her husband Rick of Meadville; 1 great-grandson, Aaron Chimiak; 1 brother, Bernard Shorter and his wife Sheila of Princeton, WV; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Albert, James, Robert, and Troy and 3 sisters, Helen, Etta Mae, and Juanita.
A private family funeral service will be Sunday at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with the Rev. Richard Sanford, United Methodist clergyman officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crawford County Care Center, 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, PA 16433.
