Ruby M. Rice, 93, formerly of Meadville and a resident of Sarah Reed Nursing Home, Erie, died there Friday, December 16, 2005.
She was born in Duquesne, PA July 24, 1912 a daughter of Benjamin Harold and Mabel Edna Shrom Morris. She married James E. Rice in Duquesne, PA August 2, 1934 and he preceded her in death January 23, 1999.
She had worked at American Viscose Co. in the 1930’s and then was a homemaker raising her family. She had attended the Unitarian Universalist Church.
She was a graduate of Duquesne High School and she enjoyed gardening sewing and crafts.
Survivors, include five children, Richard J. Rice and his wife Ann of Boca Raton, FL, John R. Rice and his wife Patricia of San Jose, CA, Kathleen R. Thurman and her husband John of Norris, TN, Thomas J. Rice of Costa Mesa, CA and Christine R. Peterson of Fairview, PA; seven grandchildren, Richard J. Rice, Lori A. Rice, Kimberly A. Brown, Ryan M. Rice, Mary R. Thurman, Kelly R. Peterson and Michael M. Peterson; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brown, Taylor Brown and Austin Rice; one brother, Thomas Morris of Jefferson Hills, PA; one cousin, Helen Mills of Pittsburgh and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Morris, William D. Morris and Benjamin H. Morris and two sisters, Audrey L. Moore and Della Mae Genismore.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral and committal service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kate Walker, Pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church, officiating.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens mausoleum.
