Russell E. Duffy

Russell E. Duffy, Sr., 91, of Conneaut Lake, died at home, Sunday, November 2, 2014.

He was born in Pittsburgh December 22, 1922 a son of John Carlton and Lela Mae Busby Duffy.  He married Anna Mae Wenzel September 23, 1944 and she preceded him in death June 14, 2012.

He was a graduate of South Hills High School, Pittsburgh and was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army and the Korean War serving in the US Air Force.  He worked for a period as an overhead welder at Dravo Ship Building on Neville Island in Pittsburgh before joining the Pittsburgh Police Dept. where he served for 35 years.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church and the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 Pittsburgh, the American Legion and Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 Meadville.  He enjoyed fishing, swimming and sunsets at Midway Beach.  He always enjoyed a good repair project and was often fixing something with his favorite black tape.

He is survived by two daughters, Colleen Aitken and her husband Dennis of Pittsburgh and Noreen Yennerell and her husband Rich of Apache Junction, AZ; two sons, Russell E. Duffy, Jr. and his wife Judy of Conneaut Lake and Patrick Duffy and his wife Janet of Pittsburgh; ten grandchildren, James Richter, Megan Newsome, Becky Bercis, Kelly Needham, Jackie Lesher, Beth Kuzak, Nick Duffy, Erin Duffy, Katelyn Reagan and Kelly Duffy; eight great grandchildren, Austin Richter, Delaney Newsome, Cole Ternet, Lexis Bercis, Logan Lesher, Avery Needham, Calvin Kuzak and Alison Needham and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Duffy and John Duffy.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Celebrant.

Interment with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.
