Russell Haynes

May 18, 1910 — January 1, 1753

Russell Haynes, Allegheny College student and member of the Guys Mills baseball team, died at City Hospital Wednesday morning as the result of injuries received last Saturday night in a highway accident.

Young Haynes, 24, was badly hurt when his motorcycle overturned and struck an abutment as he attempted to negotiate a sharp curve.  He was removed immediately to the hospital.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. George Haynes of Richmond Township, the youth was well known throughout this section.  He was a member of the junior class at Allegheny College, where he was a member of the track team and a capable student.  He was also keenly interested in music and had been doing some teaching of various musical instruments.

Haynes was first baseman of the Guys Mills team of the Crawford County Baseball League and rated a star performer.  He was selected as a member of the all-star team which played a benefit game against the Viscose team several weeks ago.

He was a member of the Lyona M. E. Church and president of the Young People's Sunday School Class there.

Surviving are his parents and one brother, Frederick, now traveling as a member of the Nelson-Maples dance orchestra.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Lyona Cemetery.
