Ruth A. Shilling

Ruth A. Shilling, 90, formerly of Meadville, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since January, died there, Friday, March 23, 2001 following three months of failing health.

She was born in Ashtabula, OH, July 6, 1910 a daughter of James and Hattie Curry Stainbrook.  She was raised by her mother and stepfather Niles Bartholomew.  She married J. Hugh Shilling January 1, 1929 and he preceded her in death August 2, 1998.

She was a homemaker until her children were grown and then worked as a sales clerk for Sears for 17 years.  She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, a former member of its Friendly Sisters Class and a member of Elks Lodge #219 Aux.  She was an avid Bridge player, enjoying the game with her husband for over 30 years.

Survivors include four sons, Richard Shilling (Mary) of Crossville, TN, John Shilling (Marilyn) of Meadville, Dan Shilling (Sharon) of Meadville and Ron Shilling (Jeanie) of Charlotte, NC; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, a brother, Arthur Stainbrook and an infant daughter, Shirley Shilling preceded her in death.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
