Ruth E. Gawne

Ruth E. Gawne, 78, of Meadville, a registered nurse, died Thursday, August 20, 1992, at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.

She was born February 9, 1914 in Sharon, a daughter of Merle and Florence Brubaker Kohler.  She married Douglas F. Gawne, Sr., December 23, 1934.  He preceded her in death January 10, 1984.

A graduate of the Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing, she was employed as a RN with the Pennsylvania Public Health Department.  She also was owner and operator of Gawne's Dinor on Park Avenue.  She belonged to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include three sons, M. Robert Gawne of Conneaut Lake, Douglas F. Gawne, Jr. of Meadville and Edgar J. Gawne of Cortland, OH; a sister, Eleanor Reed of New Castle; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
