Ruth E. 'Penny' Ellis

Ruth E. “Penny” Ellis, 77, 11820 Hunters Ridge Blvd, Meadville died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.

She was born in Plainfield, NJ, August 8, 1930 a daughter of Frank T. and Harriett Toombs Beebe.  She married David M. Ellis September 18, 1951 and he survives.

She attended the University of North Carolina and received her bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College.  She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Meadville Literary Club and the Meadville Women’s Club.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and crossword puzzles.

Survivors, in addition to her husband David of 56 years, include: four sons, James Ellis and his wife Joelle of Center Hall, PA, Daniel Ellis and his wife Lynne of Cary, NC, Bruce Ellis and his wife Michele of Berkley Heights, NJ and Jonathan Ellis and his wife Traci of Yuba City, CA; a daughter, Susan Marshall and her husband Steve of Meadville; a sister, Harriett Orr of Spartanburg, SC and thirteen grandchildren, Alicia, James, Jonah, Andrew, John, Michael, Erin, David, Steven, Michael, Julia, Molly and Maxwell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Warren “Bud” Beebe.

Calling hours will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The Eucharistic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 870 Diamond Park, Meadville with Canon David Evans, officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
