Ruth Elisabeth Knights, 86, Meadow Street, Meadville, died Thursday September 20, 2001 at Meadville Medical Center, following a period of declining health.
She was born March 8, 1915, in Randolph (Columbia Co.), WI, a daughter of the late William and Ida Louise Quade Williams. She married Paul A. Knights June 24, 1954 and he preceded her in death July 19, 2001.
She was a 1937 Summa Cum Laude graduate with an AB in English from Carroll College in Waukesha, WI. In 1980 she retired as Associate Dean of Students at Allegheny College after 31 years of service. Previously she had worked as a public school teacher in Oconto, Hartford and LaCrosse, WI; as a Resident Assistant at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, and as Assistant Director of Student Affairs for Women at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
She was a member and Past President of the Meadville Business and Professional Women’s Club, member and Past President of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, member and Past President of the Philo Mathesian Club, member and Past President of the PA Association of Women Deans, Administrators and Counselors and member of the National Association of Women Deans, Administrators and Counselors, member of the Meadville Women’s Club, American Association of University Women, and Advisory Dean of the National Society of CWENS. She was also a founder of the Lambda Sigma National Honor Society for College Undergraduates.
Survivors, include her sister, Elyn Williams of Madison, WI.
