Ruth I. McGowan, 96, of 14396 Cox Rd., Guys Mills, and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center since December 2000 died there, Tuesday, February 24, 2004 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Leesburg, PA (Mercer Co.), June 26, 1907 a daughter of Tweed and Katherine Brosel McCarl. She married Francis McGowan January 4, 1926 and he preceded her in death January 2, 1992.
She was a 1926 graduate of Mercer High School.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, her garden and her house.
Survivors, include: five sons, Robert McGowan and his wife Alice of Meadville, Richard McGowan and his wife Christene of Canadohta Lake, William McGowan and his wife Maxine of Blooming Valley, Paul McGowan and his wife Lucille of Meadville and Ronald McGowan and his wife Karol of Guys Mills; one daughter-in-law, Evelyn McGowan of Blooming Valley; one sister, Anne McCarl of Saegertown, 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Marion Freyermuth and Marjorie Hart; one son, Thomas “Tuck” McGowan, eight brothers and sisters and four grandchildren, Lynn Bleutge, Keith Freyermuth, Marty McGowan and Jeffrey Scott McGowan.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Walton, Assoc. Pastor of Lyona Bible Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
