Ruth L. Lake

Ruth L. Lake, 91, of Saegertown, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Crawford County Care Center following a period of declining health.

She was born December 14, 1923 in Meadville, a daughter of James E. and Goldie Roberts Irwin.  She married John E. Lake November 27, 1941 and he preceded her in death January 1, 2005.

Ruth was a 1941 graduate of Meadville High School and was an authentic homemaker.  She crafted her world around the needs of her husband and children and demonstrated that joy is something that you create not something you look for.

Her family home and yard were usually packed with neighborhood kids because they were welcome.  She taxied as many as the family station wagon could hold to school activities, Sunday School, the county fair, and everywhere else.

She entertained with little songs and off beat bits of poetry that reflected her endearing humor and wholesome spirit.  She taught her children to see the delight that comes from the smallest tasks done especially well and that faith is about how you live and not just where you show up.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Hetrick of Saegertown; two sons, John C. (Charlie) Lake and his wife Mary Lou of Saegertown and Eric I. Lake of Saegertown; a sister, Audrey Adams of Meadville; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Peter S. Lake; a granddaughter, Erica Lake; two sisters, Dorothy Kasemer and Reba Stallard; and a brother, Robert C. Irwin.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family with interment in Blooming Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crawford County Care Center, 20881 State Hwy 198, Saegertown, PA 16433.
