Ruth M. Devore

Ruth M. (Peg) DeVore, 95, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville died there Monday, November 16, 2009.

She was born May 1, 1914 in Ann Arbor, MI, a daughter of the late George M. and Eleanor E. Eberle McConkey.  She married Rodney W. DeVore June 12, 1937 and he preceded her in death April 1, 2008.

Peg was a 1936 graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in decorative design.  She worked in drafting in Michigan for a brief period and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Meadville and its United Methodist Women, the University of Michigan Women, and the American Assoc. of University Women.  She was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Meadville Golden K, a former member of the former Kiwanis Ladies, Meadville and was a former swim instructor in Meadville where she taught many girls, women, and those with disabilities how to swim.

Survivors include a daughter, the Rev. Dr. Suzanne D. Bennett and her husband the Rev. Dr. R. Craig Bennett of Pittsburgh; a brother, George McConkey and his wife Helen of Cape Canaveral, FL; a granddaughter, Denise DeVore of Erie; a grandson, Donald C. DeVore of Dunedin, FL; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald C. DeVore and a sister, Jean Murray.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Suzanne D. Bennett and Rev. Dr. R. Craig Bennett, daughter and son-in-law officiating

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
