Ruth Marie Ewing, 81, formerly of Corry, died Friday, November 15, 1991 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, after a period of declining health.
She was born in Corry on May 21, 1910, a daughter of Thomas Ralph Ewing and Grace Mason Ewing.
Miss Ewing earned a BA degree at Muskingum College, a BS degree in library science at Drexel University in Philadelphia and a master's degree in librarianship at Denver University.
Her first position was at Allegheny College in 1933, then in the public library of Youngstown, OH. On a year long leave, she was librarian of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico and following her return, was head of two branch libraries in the Youngstown system.
She then became librarian for the Hamilton, OH public schools, first in the senior high school and afterward organizing and supervising libraries in 14 elementary schools.
She retired in 1974 after 40 years of library service.
Mrs. Ewing came to Corry in 1982 where she lived for six years before becoming a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Corry, and for many years was a member of the American Assn. of University Women, the American Libaray Assn. and the Ohio Teachers Assn. She was a volunteer for many years for Ft. Hamilton Hospital and the Front Street Presbyterian Church, both in Hamilton, OH.
Miss Ewing was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Raymond and Fred, MD.
She is survived by a sister, Ethel E. Ewing, Ph.D. of Meadville; a brother, Orlo Ewing of Corry and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
