Ruth V. Keyes, 93, of 12003 Dawn Drive, Meadville and a resident of the Wesbury United Methodist Community, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Meadville Medical Center. She was born to Joseph and Celia White in Brookline, PA on February 14, 1921. A Valentine’s Day baby, her middle name was Valentine and she thoroughly enjoyed all the discussion it always generated.
Ruth graduated from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh and attended the University of Michigan. She married Bengt H. Soderquist on September 14, 1941. After raising their daughter, Lee Soderquist Trimble, she and her husband traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. A highlight of their married life was the 3 years they spent in Slovenia while “Binks” worked there. After retirement they moved to New Port Richey, Florida where her husband passed away in 1989. Ruth remarried in 1992. She and her husband Al Davis shared a particularly warm and caring relationship. They also enjoyed traveling together until his death in 1996. She subsequently married Glenn Keyes in 2001.
Ruth came to Meadville in 2010 and took up residence in Cribbs Home at Wesbury. She thoroughly enjoyed the friends she made there, was quite active, and particularly liked playing poker and pinochle. Ruth often referred to Cribbs as her “home.” She also found a warm welcome at Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church in Saegertown.
She was a quiet person, always pleasant, easy to love and very loving. Ruth was happy to be close to her daughter and son-in-law; she adored her 2 grandsons, was fond of her grandson’s wife and was thrilled to spend time with her 2 great grandchildren.
Surviving Ruth are her daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Reed Trimble of Meadville; grandsons, Erik Trimble of San Francisco, CA and Ryan Trimble and his wife Meredith and great grandchildren, Ian and Madeleine of Unionville, CT. Also surviving, are 11 nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. A memorial service will be held at a later date in June.
