Samuel A. Scott III, 96 of Stoneboro, passed away at 11:52 am on April 2, 2018 at Greystone Country Estates in Fredonia. Sam was born on October 10, 1921 in Phillipston, Clarion County, PA to the late Samuel A. Scott Jr. and Bessie Jean Vasbinder Scott. Sam was a 1939 Graduate of Brookville High School in Brookville, Jefferson County, PA. While in high school Sam worked for the Jeffersonian Democrat Newspaper running a Linograph machine. After high school Sam worked for the Pittsburgh Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and then went on to serve our country during World War II in the Army-Air Force. He was deployed twice in the European Theatre and once in the Pacific Theatre, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. After his time in the military, Sam moved to Stoneboro where his parents had moved and was employed at Penn Power as a meter reader and the Superintendent of the Storeroom, having retired in 1985. Sam married his beloved wife, Marian Blair Scott on January 23, 1947, she preceded him in death on April 30, 2003. Sam was an active member of the Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, in his years there he served as an Elder, Trustee and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Sandy Lake Lodge #573. Sam was very dedicated to his community and was involved in the Stoneboro Volunteer Fire Department and served as the treasurer, Stoneboro Borough Council, the Local Stoneboro Planning Commission, and the Mercer County Regional Planning Commission. Sam also loved to sing and was a member of the Shenango Valley Corral. Sam was also a self-taught electrician and wired many houses in the area. He also loved woodworking and painting. Samuel is survived by his daughter, Linda Jean Scott McCarl and husband Wayne of San Bernardino, CA. In addition to his parents and wife, Samuel was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Scott. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 3 pm until 7 pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. An Oddfellows service will take place in the funeral home at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 4. Additional visitation will be on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 10 am until 11 am. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11 am on Thursday, April 5, with the Reverend Adam Rodgers, Pastor of Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, Officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
