Samuel Emmett Waddle, 73, of Meadville, died Saturday, January 9, 1993, at Meadville Medical Center following a several-month illness.
He was born in Saltsburg, March 27, 1919, a son of Samuel Milton and Ethel Young Waddle. He married Vivien Fitzsimmons May 17, 1945. She survives.
He retired as a clerk in the accounting department of Avtex Fibers Corp. of Meadville after 37 years of service.
He was a graduate of Saltsburg High School.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Meadville, and had served on various church committees.
A member of the Saegertown American Legion, he was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge 408 of Meadville. He belonged to the Timothy Alden Council 60, the Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191, and the Crawford County Historical Society.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Kathleen A. Waddle of Fairfax Station, VA and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Haemer of Meadville; two sisters, Veda Swanson of Edmon and Norma May of Apollo; two grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant grandson; a half-brother, Harold Young and two sisters, Irma Cochran and Thelma Elliot.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.
