Samuel F. Fry, 86, of Meadville, who was a barber in the Meadville area for 62 years, died Saturday at the Smith Institute.
Fry was the oldest barber in terms of service in Meadville when he retired 10 years ago. His last barber shop was at the Reis Hotel.
Fry, who was born at Muskegon, MI, January 28, 1871, began barbering in 1885 at the age of 14. He lived in the Meadville area for 63 years of his 86 years.
He was a son of Daniel and Margaret Elder Fry and married the former Mae Belknap, who survives, November 30, 1892. He was a member of Local 198, Journeymen Barbers International Union of America.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Marian Custead of Cochranton, Edward S. of Meadville and Kenneth B. of Sacramento, CA; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Ford of Allston, MA; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
