Samuel J. Wampler

Samuel J. Wampler, 64, of Meadville, died Wednesday, August 27, 1958, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.  He had lived in Meadville for the past 12 years.

He was born in Monroe County, Indiana, January 15, 1894, a son of Jefferson and Amanda Bowman Wampler.

He was a foreman for engines for the Erie Railroad where he had been employed for more than 40 years.  He also had served as a rules examiner for the Erie for several years.

He was a member of Stone Methodist Church, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Erie Railroad Veterans Club.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marguerite Bond Wampler; three sons, Jerry H. of Indianapolis, Shannon L. of Meadville and Jan W. at home; a daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Kelly of Decatur, IL; five sisters, Mrs. Hattie Spicer of Gosport, IN, Mrs. Nellie Grimmel of San Diego, CA, Mrs. Hazel Tompkins of Santa Monica, CA, Mrs. Mabel Montague of South Laguma, CA and Miss Ruth Wampler of San Francisco, CA; four brothers, Mark H., Archie G., and Frank C., all of Chesterton, IN and Herbert D. of Qunicy, IN; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
