Samuel S. Simonette, Sr.

Samuel S. Simonette, Sr., 93 of Meadville died Sunday, November 25, 2018 surrounded by family at the Meadville Medical Center.

He was born December 8, 1924 in Meadville a son of Joseph and Martina DeMarco Simonette.  He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a machinist on the Erie Railroad retiring from Conrail in 1987 after 42 years of service.  He first worked at his parent’s corner grocery store at Poplar and S. Main Streets.

He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Church.  He was also a member of the Meadville Eagles Club, the former Meadville Club, the Italian Civic Club and the Davis Hose Co.  He was the Crawford County Democratic Chairman for many years and was an original board member that formed the Erie Lackawanna Credit Union (now One Federal Credit Union).  He was an avid bowler and golfer and was very fond of the staff at Juniper Village where he was a resident since 2013.

He is survived by a daughter, Martha Hill (William) of Meadville; three sons, Samuel Simonette (Cindy) of Conneaut Lake, Joseph Simonette (Kelly) of Meadville and Terry Simonette (Diana) of Meadville; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer Murphy (Matthew), Laurie Lenigan (William), Julie Knauff (Douglas), Keri Simonette, Lynsey Simonette (Evan Beech), Michael Simonette (Valerie), Matthew Simonette (Michelle), Jerry Ennis (Heather), Laura Sherry (Anthony), Mallory Saltrelli (Mark), Ashton Simonette (Travis Jensen), Corey Hankey (Shannon) and Crista Anderson (Tim); nineteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Rendulic of Conneautville and Rosemarie Palmerio of Meadville and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Simonette; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Simonette; two grandsons, Noah Simonette and Jeffrey Hill; a granddaughter, Baby Hill; a brother, Joseph Simonette and four sisters, Annie Gattuso, Josephine Furno, Angelina Furno and Antoinette Grippi.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 27th from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 6:30.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 28th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water Street, Meadville with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Juniper Village Employee Fund, 455 Chestnut Street or Seton Catholic School, 385 Pine Street both of Meadville, PA 16335.
