Sara Alene Shaffer, 90, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville, died there Saturday, August 23, 2003 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Ridgway March 7, 1913, a daughter of the late Mark and Clara Scott Shaffer.
She was a 1930 graduate of Academy High School, Erie and a 1934 graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor’s degree in History. She worked as a dietician at Allegheny College, retiring in 1974 following 30 years of service. She previously worked at the PA Dept. of Public Welfare, Erie for 6 years; and was in dietary service at Centenary Jr. College, Hackettstown, NJ for 2 years and at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN for 2 years. She was a former member of the American Association of University Women.
She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church.
Cousins survive, and 2 adoptive granddaughters, Lynn Anne Dunlap Castleberry of Plant City, FL and Kelly Frampton of Meadville. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark Shaffer.
Calling hours will be Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cribbs Chapel, Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave. Meadville where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. William L. Brown, Associate Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Temple Cemetery, Hazen.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
