The oldest resident in the Methodist Home for the Aged, and possibly the oldest resident in the county, Miss Sara Maria Eddy, died Sunday, May 17, 1959, at the age of 105.
Miss Eddy, who had been a resident at the home since June 5, 1929, when she entered the former Ida M. Cribbs Home, when located at Conneautville, was born November 25, 1853, in North Collins, Erie County, NY. She was a daughter of Albert and Lydia Sisson Eddy.
Early in life, she was crippled by scarlet fever but later recovered the use of her limbs through surgery. Prior to entering the home, she lived near Westfield, NY, for a long period. She formerly was a member of Volusia Methodist Church there, and taught in its Sunday School.
Born of New England Quaker parentage, Miss Eddy overcame her physical handicap by educating herself from school books furnished by her brothers and sisters. She became a maid in a sanitorium and in time trained herself to be a practical nurse, a profession she followed for many years.
There are no survivors.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Methodist Home Cemetery, Conneautville.
