Sarah A. Leri

Sarah A. Leri, 93, of Meadville, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

She was born in Pittsburgh August 10, 1914, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Bova LoBue.  She married Orlando J. (Lon) Leri April 24, 1938 and he preceded her in death March 9, 1987.

She was a homemaker, worked at Talon for 7 years, and was owner and operator with her husband of Leri’s Grocery Store on State Road Hill, Meadville for 11 years.

She was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, its Altar and Rosary Society and the Parish Care and Concern Committee.

Sarah was formerly a member of the Italian Civic Club Auxiliary, West Mead #2 Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and was a volunteer with the Erie Catholic Diocese office for 5 years.  She especially loved her family and time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Dianna Armour and her husband Lee of Meadville; Georgia Abbondanza and her husband Pat of Meadville; and Barbara Burkett and her husband Edward of Meadville; a son, Dr. James E. Leri and his wife Susan of Harborcreek; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Brunner of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marie Keene Mischler and Mary LoBue; 2 brothers, Ignatius (Babe) and Mariano (Joe) LoBue; and an infant great-granddaughter, Gemma Rose Burkett.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer Service at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville with Fr. Richard J. Toohey as Celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
