Sarah "Sara" L. Shirey

Sarah “Sara” L. Shirey, 83 of Grove City, formerly of Stoneboro, passed away on May 15, 2019 at the Trinity Living Center. Sara was born on April 25, 1936 in Grove City to the late Boyd S. and Opal M. Wilcox Christy. She was a graduate of Stoneboro High School and went on to work at the Mercer Auto Action as well as for the County Home, now Avalon Springs. Sara married her husband, Robert Shirey, in 1983, he preceded her in death in 1993. Sara attended the Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church and enjoyed participating in many church functions. She enjoyed singing at church and hymns on her own. Sara also enjoyed her meals. Sara is survived by her children Gayle (Madilyn) Elder of Fredonia, Kevin Elder of Tionesta, Jodi (Bobby) Scott of Stoneboro, Polly (Bill) Greggs of Stoneboro, and Dory Elder (Ron Gilliland) of Stoneboro, grandchildren Kinzie, Molly, Hunter, Karlee, Shane, Chad, Chelsea, Casey, Shandi, and Garrett, ten great-grandchildren, brother John (Dee) Christy of Sandy Lake, sisters-in-law Dorothy Chirsty of Sandy Lake and Sharon Christy of Grove City, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Sara was preceded in death by her brothers, Garth, Boyd Jr., and Larry Christy, and sisters Veda Blair, Faye Todd, and Dorcas Welton. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Homes, Stoneboro & Sandy Lake. Funeral services will be private.
