Sara (Sally) Enos Wentworth of 29521 State Hwy. 27, Guys Mills, PA, died on August 5, 2017, in Cary, NC after a brief illness, just three days before her 101st birthday.
Sally was born in Connellsville, PA on August 8, 1916, to Belle Pantall Enos and George Enos. She grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and Westminster College, Class of 1937, where she received a degree in Public School Music. After teaching music and English in the Harrisville School system for three years, she married Gaylord Wentworth on August 17, 1940. He predeceased her in 2002 after 61 wonderful years together. She was also predeceased by a brother, Sherrick, in infancy, by her younger sister, Rene Deyoe, in 2000 and by nephews Roger Hoffman and Thomas Wentworth. Sally is survived by her son, Philip of Guys Mills, daughter Anne Brill (Downey) of Cary, NC, grandchildren Mary Kathleen Brill (Karim) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Meredith Brierly (Frank) of Cary, NC, Downey Brill of Cary, NC, great grandson Parker Brierly and several nephews and nieces.
Love of family, a strong faith, and spreading the joy of music were pillars of Sally’s life. She showed musical talent at a young age, singing a solo at a funeral and singing on the Pittsburgh radio station while in elementary school. She loved teaching piano lessons privately for 30 years, was pianist/organist at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church for 49 years and enjoyed participating in countless community musical programs. She volunteered for years in support of the schools and local charities.
Sally excelled in creativity in her home, baking, sewing, decorating and doing crafts, and especially loved creating gifts for her family and friends. Her incredible vocabulary, her ability to complete the daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and her success in trouncing family members at word games, remained until the last few days of her life. Sally embraced each stage of life fully, including her senior years, and she leaves her family a treasured legacy of a life well lived, including a loving spirit, a caring heart, a positive attitude and a lifelong interest in learning.
