Scott "Scooter" Charles Sterling, of Knowlton, Wisconsin, passed away in the morning of October 3, 2016, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau, Wisconsin as the result of injuries received in a boating accident on the evening of October 2. He was 46 years old.

Scott was born in Corry, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1970, the first child of Fred Lee and Cynthia Ruth (Correll) Sterling. Scott was a 1988 graduate of Huron High School in Huron, South Dakota, where he played basketball and football. He worked for the Boston and Maine railroad for 2 years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1990 where he would proudly serve six years. Most recently Scott worked as a Locomotive Engineer for the Canadian National Railway.

Scott will be remembered as a devoted husband, inspirational father, proud grandfather, and dedicated worker. He was a man with a tough exterior, but was soft-hearted and his family was his top priority. He enjoyed swimming, running, motorcycles, and eating cheeseburgers and chicken wings.

Scott is survived by his wife, Jeanette; son, Justin Tivis; grandson, Scott Joseph; daughter-in-law, Kasey; father, Fred Sterling; sister, Gayle Sterling; and nephews, Aaron and Ethan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Sterling.

A funeral service will be at 12 noon on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, Wisconsin. Family and friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

The graveside service will be Tuesday, October 11 at 12:00 noon in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville with Pastor Don Fisher of Erie First Assembly of God Church, officiating.  Military honors will follow provided by Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
