Shannon Lee Wampler

Shannon Lee Wampler, 82, of Meadville died Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Marquette Hospice House.

He was born October 18, 1933 in Marion, OH a son of Samuel J. and Marguerite L. Keeler Wampler.  He married Dolores Wolfe July 15, 1954 and she preceded him in death October 4, 1977.  He subsequently married Mildred M. Richardson Smith Wampler July 13, 1979 and she survives.

He was a 1951 graduate of Meadville High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army from 1953-1955.  Following his discharge from the Army he worked for the Erie Lackawanna and then Conrail Railroad for 36 years retiring in 1988 as an engineer.

He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 234 and a life member of both Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept. Station #27 and Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing and cutting wood.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Mildred of 37 years, include: two sons, John S. Wampler of Blooming Valley and Eric B. Wampler and his friend Russell of St. Petersburg, FL; two step-sons, Daniel Smith and his wife Kathy of Bernardsville, IN and Ken Smith and his wife Gayle of Pekin, IN; a brother, Jan Wampler and his wife Elizabeth Reed of Boston, MA; five step-grandchildren, Kenny Smith, Jr., Ryan Smith, J.R. Smith, Edward Smith and Jodie Warden.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Edward Smith, a step-brother, Jerry (Bud) Wampler and a step-sister, Nellie Kelly.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Masonic service at 4:45 p.m.

The funeral service will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Brumagin, officiating.

Interment with military honors provided by VFW Post #2006 will be in Greendale Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Street both of Meadville, PA 16335.
