Shirley L. Schrecengost, 68, of 15837 Park Avenue Ext., Meadville, died Thursday, December 6, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born in Altoona, PA October 10, 1933 a daughter of Thomas and Olive Carter. She was raised by Fred and Olive Carter Averill. She married M. Ray Schrecengost November 26, 1964 and he survives.
She retired in 1991 as a LPN at Beverly Health Care Meadville after 35 years in nursing. She also had worked at Altoona Hospital and the former Flickenger’s Nursing Home.
She was a graduate of Altoona High School and Altoona Hospital’s LPN program. She was a member of First Christian Church where she was very active in various church activities. She was also a fifteen-year member of the Erie Philharmonic Chorus. She loved singing, playing the organ and her two black Labrador Retrievers.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Chris Schrecengost and his wife Suzanne of Meadville; a sister, Donna Harding and her husband William of Altoona; a brother, William “Jack” Carter and his wife Bernadine of New Berlin, WI and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Carter.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Monday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Clark, Pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.
The family suggests memorial be made to the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, 1006 State Street, Erie, PA 16501.
