Shirley M. Wood

Shirley M. Wood, 83, of Saegertown died Thursday, May 10, 2018 surrounded by her family at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a short illness. She was born March 31, 1935 in Meadville a daughter of George and Julia Baumgartner Dworshak. She married Harold E. Wood January 22, 1971 and he preceded her in death May 31, 2007. She was a graduate of Meadville High School and worked at the former Mid Penn Telephone Company, Van Tuil Photo and for Dr. Sharlene Brown. She was a member of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church in Saegertown. She was a trustee of Elks Lodge #219, a member of Order of Eastern Star, Meadville Grottoettes, Vernon Central Hose Co., VFW Post #2006, Saegertown American Legion Post #205 and was active in two card clubs. She enjoyed spending time at the camp built by her father near Youngsville with her husband and family. She also always enjoyed a good card game and a drink or two. She is survived by a son, Timothy P. Wood and his wife Kimberly of Saegertown; a daughter, Susan C. Hindle and her husband Scott of Saegertown; ten grandchildren, Katherine Hushon and her husband Paul, Angela Scipione and her husband John, Christine Gordon and her husband Matthew, John Wood and his wife Christine, Retired Chief Kimberly A. Leis and her husband Andy, Jasmine Hanstine and her husband Lee, Shawn Walker and his wife Suzanne, Erin Walker and his wife Stephanie, Jennifer Pavetti and Jacob Hindle and his wife Sharon; eighteen great grandchildren, Lucas and Adam Hushon, Nicholas and Elizabeth Scipione, Jessica and Alex Wood, Spc. Cameron Beams, Cody Beams, Jonas and Aiden Pavetti, Emily and Chloe Hindle, Lauren, Sophie, Lilly, Madeline, Ryan and Brady Walker; several great great grandchildren; three nieces, Tina Hoover and her husband Bob, Elaine McKalip and her husband Jim and Rebecca Crawford and her husband Billy; four nephews, Emery Metzler and his wife Pearl, Norman Metzler and his wife Janet, Mark Metzler and his wife Sandy and Jeffrey Metzler and his wife Tina; one cousin, several great nieces and great nephews, including Mark Benson and several great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Ann Walker; two nieces, Melody Benson and Julie Ann Roby; a nephew, Ronald Foster; three sisters, Ann Foster, Beatrice Shreck and Julia Metzler and three brothers, George, Frank and Mark Dworshak. Private family services will be held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
