Shirley Mae Mumau

Shirley Mae Mumau, 86, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Crawford County Care Center.

She was born August 6, 1934 in Meadville, a daughter of Lawrence and Sophie Rohleder.  She married Willis Blaine Mumau July 14, 1970 and he preceded her in death September 12, 2020.

Shirley was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a homemaker.  She enjoyed canning, cooking, gardening, camping and fishing and loved being the “Do Drop In” house.  She was very supportive of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities and endeavors.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include five children, Gail Gongaware of New York City, Scott Gongaware (Patty) of Valencia, Barbara Gongaware Smith of Meadville, Mark Mumau (Sonia) of Moorpark, CA, and Jeff Mumau (Rose) of Conneaut Lake; six grandchildren, Dana Smith, Brent Smith (Kristy), Alex Mumau (Julianna), Jeremy Mumau, Bryan Mumau and Tanya Ring (Zechariah); five great-grandchildren, Reagan and Garrett Smith, Cameron and Bethany Mumau and Alexander Ring; a sister, Mariella Frye of Chicago, IL; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved “grand dogs.”

In addition to her parents and husband Blaine, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Gary Gongaware and a grandson, Daniel Mumau.

Calling hours will be Monday, December 21st from 10 to 11 a.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Harold Walton officiating.  The wearing of masks is required.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
