Shirley Mae Slater

Shirley Mae Slater, 82 of Fairview Twp, Fredonia, passed away on July 1, 2021 at UPMC Hamot. Shirley was born on April 30, 1939 to the late Clifford and Ethel (Thompson) McCartney. She was a graduate of Cochranton High School. Shirley worked for many years on the family farm and drove school bus. She enjoyed farming, milking cows, and running the machinery. Most of all she enjoyed being a homemaker for her husband and children. She also enjoyed reading, shopping at thrift stores, and especially enjoyed the color yellow. Shirley married her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Slater on October 17, 1958, he survives at home. She is also survived by her children, Susan (Gary) Patterson of Fredonia, Tammy (Tim) Hanna of Fredonia, and Rick Slater and partner Paul Streamo of Akron, OH, grandchildren Andy Patterson, Sarah (Nick) Orndorff, and Danny Patterson, great-grandchildren Chase and Avery Orndorff, siblings, Phylis (Glendon) Harry, Mary Jane (Ray) Keiser, Sandi (Don) Eckart, and Donna Hartman, sister-in-law Charlotte (Al) Goerlich, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother James McCartney, and sister-in-law Mary Umbaugh. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 4 pm – 8 pm on Monday, July 5, 2021. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 6, at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Perry Chapel Cemetery.
