Shirley Marie Hoffman

March 11, 1921 — July 9, 2008

Shirley Marie Hoffman, 87, formerly of Rochester, NY, Chestnut St., and Hillside Home in Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 2007, died there Wednesday, July 9, 2008.

She was born in Rochester, NY March 11, 1921 a daughter of Frank J. and Bertha Eschelmiller Steiner.  She married Carl J. Hoffman July 15, 1942 and he preceded her in death September 1, 1981.

She retired in 1982 as executive secretary at Xerox Corporation after 20 years of service.  During World War II she worked for the Eastman Kodak Co.

She was a former member of the Irondequoit Presbyterian Church in Rochester and a founding member of its DINA-INA Circle.  She was a current member of Stone United Methodist Church and its Marriott Sunday School class.

She was a member of the Xerox Pioneer Club, Rochester, NY, the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary and the YWCA.  Over the years she performed volunteer work at Rochester General Hospital, the Meadville Medical Center, Meadville Junior and Senior High Schools and East End Elementary School.

Survivors, include a daughter, Gail N. Fine of Meadville; two grandchildren, Heather Rouse and her husband Andrew of Tucson, AZ and Jonathan Fine and his wife Robin of Albuquerque, NM; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Aaron and Hannah; one niece, five nephews and a son-in-law, Ed Fine of Meadville.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rudolph Steiner.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Gerald H. Murphy, officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rochester, NY.

The family suggests memorials be made to Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA.
