Shirley J. Britton Niederriter, 86, of Meadville and formerly of Conneaut Lake, died Monday, May 9, 2016 at Meadville Medical Center.
She was born March 31, 1930 in Conneaut Lake, a daughter of Arthur D. and Mildred Piatt Britton. She married LaVern (Ernie) Niederriter October 30, 1948 and he preceded her in death October 2, 1980.
Shirley was a 1948 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School. She was a homemaker and retired in 2005 from Chilson’s Home Furnishings in Conneaut Lake and Greenville following 15 years of service. She was previously the bookkeeper for A.D. Britton Gulf Service Station in Conneaut Lake, was an Avon sales representative, and was also the Conneaut Lake Borough tax collector for 4 years.
Shirley was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Conneaut Lake and was a former choir member. She enjoyed playing cards and music, and especially spending time with her family and friends. She was devoted to keeping in touch with her family and friends through sending numerous cards and telephone conversations.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula A. Foulk and her husband William of Greenville; two sons, Bruce E. Niederriter of Boulder, CO and Eric L. Niederriter and his wife Kimberly of Conneautville; a sister, Karen Lee Barnard and her husband Dale of Meadville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Niederriter.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 240 N. Third St., Conneaut Lake where the funeral and committal service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Jay Sterling and Dave Brumagin, church Pastors, officiating.
Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery, Conneaut Lake.
