Stanley A. Barr, Sr., 87, of Meadville, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at Meadville Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born in Randolph Township, March 24, 1911, a son of Hayes A. and Sarah Jane Rice Barr. He married Margaret L. Blanchard, July 20, 1935. She survives.
He retired in 1973 from the technical department of the former Avtex Fibers Inc., where he worked in process development and quality control for 38 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon and elder and a former trustee of the Presbyterian Homes Board.
He was past president and 10-year director of the former Saegertown Joint School Board representing Woodcock Township. He was a five-year member of the tipstaff for the Crawford County Courts, a red coat at Meadville Medical Center for 10 years and member of Crawford Masonic Lodge 234.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Stanley A. Barr, Jr. (Elizabeth) of West Chester; three grandchildren, Stanley A. Barr, III, Douglas J. Barr, and Amy Shaffer (Brian); a brother, Albert Barr; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Twila Marie Barr, Shirley Hubler, Mildred Shouey and Mary DeVore.
Services were held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
