Stanley M. Smith

Stanley M. Smith, 95, of Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center passed away there, Monday, June 13, 2016.

He was born February 1, 1921 in Meadville a son of Hiram and Mollie Reedy Smith.  He married Ena O. Teed May 22, 1943 and she preceded him in death March 25, 1989.  He subsequently married Leora Blood Durfee June 15, 1991 and they separated in 2001.  She survives.

Stanley worked very hard his entire life, farming, cutting wood, plowing snow, backhoe and dump truck work, all while working full time second shift at the former American Viscose, FMC Avtex Co. for 39 years retiring in 1985.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet Owens and her husband Dale of Meadville; a son, Kenneth W. Smith and his wife Deborah of Erie; a step-daughter, Nancy Teed King of Erie; four grandchildren, Deborah Prichard and her husband Robert, Jeremy Smith, Trisha Maki and her husband Robert and Wendy Hakel and her husband Darren; six great grandchildren, Charity Hunt Edwards, Shauna Hunt Pratt, Nickolus Hakel, Justin Hakel, Madison Maki and Ryan Maki; five great great grandchildren, Damian Tatters, Jaromir Edwards, Darius Edwards, Tessa Hunt and Harmony Pratt; a sister, Eleanor Hamilton of Meadville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Viola Mae Smith; two brothers, Charles Smith and Ira Smith and two sisters, Margaret Southall and Bessie Trout.

Calling hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will follow Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Temple Jarrell of New Beginnings Church of God, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

Stanley has been a resident of the Crawford County Care Center for the past ten years following a bout of oral cancer.  The staff and Dr. Ron Unice have been so wonderful in his care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
