Stephen (Steve) O'Day, 74, formerly of Linesville and Erie, died Tuesday, May 20, 1980, at San Rosario Nursing Home, Cambridge Springs, where he had been a patient for about 10 weeks. He had been ill for about a year. He was born in Rock, WV, February 22, 1906, a son of John and Harriett Thornton O'Day. He first married Ada Ames who died in 1955. He then married Mary Lou Heath, April 20, 1958. He retired in 1967 as a machinist at Erie City Manufacturing Co. Prior to that he was chef for many years at the former Clark's Restaurant, State Street, Erie. Following his retirement, he worked as a counselor for the Erie Human Relations Commission. He was a licensed lay preacher of Crescent Ministerial Assn. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He also served in the National Guard 112th Infantry. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Erie. Survivors, in addition to his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Shirley) Hodges of Erie and Deborah O'Day of Meadville; four sons, Jack O'Day of Conneaut, OH, Ernest O'Day of Erie, Stephen O'Day of Linesville and Mark O'Day of Meadville; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Leona) Pretz of Erie; two half sisters, Mrs. Velma (Babe) Davis of Erie and Mrs. Ruth Fingers of St. Louis; a half brother, Paul O'Day of St. Louis; nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Clarence. Services were held at Waid Funeral Home. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Services Past Services
