Steven Lee Higbee, 67 of Stoneboro, passed away on November 26, 2022 at UPMC Presbyterian. Steve was born in Mercer on January 18, 1955 to the late Kermit E. and Mary Jane (Everall) Higbee. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School and went on to serve his Country in the United States Army Reserves. He worked as a welder at Greenville Steel Car, which subsequently became Trinity, then retiring from Imperial Systems in 2019.
Steve enjoyed the outdoors and going hunting during deer and turkey season. He volunteered for many years at the Tamarack Wildlife Rehab in Saegertown. He also enjoyed building things and woodworking. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife and daughter.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his friends at the McQuiston Center in Sandy Lake, where he also volunteered his time. He was known to be the one behind the grill cooking the hot dogs, and was always willing to be a taste tester for the soup cookoff.
Steve married his wife, Diana (Gordon) Higbee on July 3, 1976, she survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter; Stephanie (Bradley) Gilmore of Volant, sister Susie (Jim) Kish of Mercer, 3 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and his niece and kidney donor; Amanda York.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother; Jim Higbee, sister; Kathy Kish, and infant brother; Terry Higbee.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where visitation will be from 4 pm – 6 pm on Friday, December 2. Military honors and a memorial service will follow visitation at 6 pm with the Pastor James Bibza, officiating.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made in Steven’s name to the Tamarack Wildlife Center, 21601 Stull Road, Saegertown, PA 16433
