Sturges Dick Dorrance, 87, of Clearwater, FL, who was a native of Meadville, died Tuesday, November 26, 1968, at Clearwater. He formerly lived at Portland and Yarmouth, Maine.
Mr. Dorrance was born in Meadville, July 15, 1881, a son of James Ford and Elizabeth Dick Dorrance. He married Mary Grear March 28, 1912.
He was publisher of the Westfield, Mass., Evening Journal from 1917 to 1921, and later was a member of the Advertising department of Colliers Weekly magazine. For many years, he was president of Dorrance, Sullivan and Co., a New York City advertising firm.
Mr. Dorrance was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, an organization whose members are descendants of officers who served under Gen. Washington in the Revolutionary War. He also was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are two children, Mrs. William H. (Helen) Simpson of Keene, NH and Sturges Dick, Jr. of New York City; a sister, Mrs. Preston Brown of Vineyard, Mass.; a brother, Charles of Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
