Susan Scott Dewey

Susan Scott Dewey, 90, of 1005 First St., Meadville, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

She was born November 28, 1918 in Spartanburg, SC, a daughter of the late Guy and Isabella Morton Scott.  She married George B. Dewey of Pulaski, VA on December 9, 1943 at The Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, Raleigh, NC.  He preceded her in death May 30, 2003.

She graduated from Needham Broughton High School and Peace Junior College, both in Raleigh, NC.  While in Raleigh, she worked as a legal secretary and in the offices of the Occidental Life Insurance Company.  She and her husband moved to Meadville in 1952.

She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Meadville where she was a member of the Grace Circle and was active in other church activities.  For many years she was active in various committees of the Meadville YWCA.  She was an active member of the former Meadville City Hospital Auxiliary for many years as well.  Susan was a collector of antique glass and china.  In retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively in North America and enjoyed several trips to Europe.

Survivors include a daughter, Isabella D. Seavey and her husband Rick of Warren, OH; four sons, George B. Dewey, Jr., Scott M. Dewey and his companion Robin Martin Kral, L. Henry Dewey and his wife Deborah, and William M. Dewey, all of Meadville; six grandchildren, Sinclair Seavey and his wife Katie of Winston-Salem, NC, Katherine Seavey Sanford and her husband Jeff of Nashville, TN, Emily Dewey of Erie, and Alexander, Whitney, and Ryan Dewey; and three great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Scott Oldham of Charlotte, NC and a brother, W. Morton Scott of Raleigh, NC.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, Pastor officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville, PA 16335 or Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
