Sylvester Free, 71, a resident of Veteran's Administration Hospital at Erie, died there Tuesday, January 17, 1984, after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 23, 1912 of Mercer County, a son of Harvey and Effie Bell Free.
He was a retired purchasing agent for ONC Motor Feight Systems of Los Angeles. Prior to that he briefly was a teacher in Crawford County schools and worked for JC Penney Co.
Free attended the former Edinboro State College and was a US Air Force Veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant.
Survivors include a son, Jack of Santa Rosa, CA; three sisters, Mrs. Reddin (Olive) Terrill and Mrs. Russell (Helen) Smith, both of Cochranton and Mrs. Allen (Mary) Copeland of Cambridge Springs; two brothers, Lester of Norcross, GA, and Joseph H. of Shermansville; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
