T. Archie Cunningham, 71, a local hotel manager and musician, of Meadville, died Monday, March 24, 1980, at City Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Meadville, December 23, 1908, a son of Ray and Lulu Mizner Cunningham. He married Jean Bowman who died in 1973.
He was a member of Old Stone United Methodist Church and graduated from Meadville public schools. He attended Allegheny College where he was a member of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania.
From 1934-44, Cunningham was an agent for Prudential Life Insurance Co., and from 1943-45 he was managing partner for the former Beacon Inn. He was executive secretary and manager for Meadville Moose Club from 1944-56 and manager for Erie Shrine Club from 1956-58.
In 1959, he became manager of Citrus Tower Lounge, Clairmont, FL and managed Oakland Beach Hotel and Lounge in Conneaut Lake from 1961-63. He was manager at the Hotel Conneaut and Elmwood Hotel, both in Conneaut Lake Park from 1964-74.
Cunningham was a lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 99 of Meadville and of Erie Legion of Moose. He was a member of Crawford Lodge 234 F and AM, Meadville, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie and Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie.
He was a professional musician for more than 50 years, having traveled with the former Von Monroe Orchestra. He had his own orchestra for more than 25 years, playing in the Meadville area. He was an honorary member of Meadville Musical Society, Local 344.
Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Lorayne Smith of Susanville, CA; a nephew, Paul Moeller, Jr. of Bigby, Nova Scotia and several cousins, including Mrs. Elizabeth Joel of Meadville.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
