Thelma E. Briggs, 92, of Blooming Valley, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at her son’s residence in Meadville, after a period of failing health.
She was born in Meadville, September 20, 1912 a daughter of Orry A. and Eva J. Mallery Hibbard. She married John R. Briggs October 12, 1935 and he preceded her in death July 17, 1996 after sixty years of marriage.
She was a graduate of Meadville High School, and had worked at the G. C. Murphy Co. and Talon, and was a homemaker for most of her life.
She was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and for many years served as an elementary Sunday School Teacher. She especially enjoyed gardening and raising roses. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid student of the Bible having memorized many passages of scripture.
Survivors, include one son, Rodney O. Briggs and his wife Jacqueline of Meadville; one sister, Gertrude Henry of Meadville; three grandchildren, Beth A. Mosier of Springboro, Betty J. Linkinhoker of Mystic, CT and John R. Briggs of Burghill, OH; five great grandchildren, Keith A., Tiffany L., and Amanda L. Mosier, Rachel L. White and Daniel R. Linkinhoker, and also nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Alanson Hibbard and one sister, Betty J. Sender.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30–11:30 a.m. with the funeral and committal service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. Officiating will be the Rev. Alice McClymonds, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, Geneva.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
